Tonight I had an interesting conversation with a friend of a friend, he’s 40 years old, and shared some of his wisdom with me. He said to travel when you are young. This isn’t the first time I had heard this, I’m sure everyone around my age has heard the same thing before, see what the world has to offer while you are young. Another interesting subject that talked about was how years (a couple decades or so) ago it was so easy to not only travel, but also to get things done, okay.. that’s a bit vague, but what I mean is; it was easy to say.. get a job, and not have to go through a bunch of loops to get to working. Today if you want a Job, you might have to show credentials, do a drug test, take other tests, talk to human resources, see three managers, and fill out a bunch of forms. It was a lot easier in the 1960’s and 1970’s to just walk in, and get hired. If for some reason you lied about something to get hired, and no one finds out until months later, but you just happen to be doing your job really well, it just became a laugh.. and it was brushed off. You simply did you job, and you did it well.

I am realizing as I type this that the entire post is all over the place, hope you don’t mind. Back to Travel, long ago it was easier to Travel, you didn’t need this or that, you could travel with a Drivers License, and that was simply good enough. So with all of this said, I like the idea of traveling while you are young, it makes sense. The gentleman I was talking to tonight brought up a good point.. when you are young, no one cares that you are sleeping on a deck of a boat, or fall in the mud, or simply backpacking around. You can attempt to talk to people that barely speak your same language but still are quite helpful to you. The term “because your young” really comes into play here, or “oh, he’s just young”, something about the mentality of society all around the world just doesn’t think the same about someone of older age.

Travel when you are young. I still haven’t, but I need to. I have energy, I’m young, it’s just the right time to do something of the sort. Even if you aren’t traveling outside the country, see what the country you’re in has to offer. Go hiking, see the wilderness, see the city.. see history, see culture, and take pictures. You will have stories upon stories and something to always talk about. I can only imagine 100 years ago how many stories everyone must have had. Life needs to be like this, always new and refreshing. Be adventurous.

Anyway, that’s all I have to say, if you like any of this, talk about it in the comments. Oh and let me know if I misspelled anything, I’m a bit lazy tonight.

Okay, not literally, but this thing is ridiculously bright. I decided to go with a Romisen flashlight, the price was great on dealextreme, but then I discovered Shining Beam. Tuesday I ordered the flashlight, and it came today. Shining Beam typically sells modded flashlights that you can find on websites like dealextreme. Both websites sell flashlights at a great price, yet work ridiculously well. The Romisen flashlight I ordered has a modded clicky switch in the back so that you can momentarily turn it on, and upgraded with a CREE Q5 LED. The flashlight is fantastic, and the build quality feels wonderful, the best part though was the price, which can’t be beat for what you are getting. Once again the thing is bright, and you must be careful operating it so you don’t hurt your eyes, like those guys on the freeway that upgraded their headlights to HID lamps and either never properly aimed them, or aren’t running them with lenses, which in that case totally blind you when they are behind you, and you want to kill them.

So you are reading this and thinking either whoa cool! or eh, totally lame. See, last fall I found myself on a hike at night, with a small toy-like LED flashlight that had some luminance, but just not enough. Later I started doing a little bit more research and came up with what I got, and I am more than happy with it. I think my next flashlight though I might was something adjustable, regardless, I encourage you to check out Shining Beam and Candle Power Fourms if you think this might be something that interests you.

Here is a link to the flashlight I bought, they also sell it in black,
http://www.shiningbeam.com/servlet/the-88/Romisen-RC-dsh-F4-CREE-Q5/Detail

A little something a lot of people don’t really know about me is my fascination with North Korea. Maybe those of you reading this are somewhat educated on North Korea, but time after time it is to my surprise how many people aren’t. I have a thing for watching documentaries on the country, and have seen a lot of them. But today I discovered a very awesome website from a post on Digg, immediately catching my attention with the words North Korea in the post title, I couldn’t contain myself but to see what my fellow digg users were digging up. VBS.tv, was the website that produced the video, which I of course later found do lots of little documentaries. So I watched, and all I really can say is watch it and that it’s by far my favorite video on North Korea made yet. It shows a few things I’ve never seen before, and is filmed in a way that might seem that of a bloggers point of view, very raw, yet still produced in a professional manner. You can tell that most of the time, they are secretly filming when they are not supposed to, on digital cameras. This Documentary by far (in my own opinion), is the best introduction yet to those who are not familiar with the homogeneous North Korea or their leader, Kim Jong-il.

For some reason the video, Vice Guide to North Korea is in 3 parts.
All 3 parts are accessible after the page break.

So today I shaved, just now that is. If anyone knows me well enough they know that I am one that enjoys wet shaving, or classic shaving. I use a wonderful 34c Merkur safety razor from Germany, Proraso eucalyptus shaving cream from Italy, and a Rooney shaving brush from the UK– sounds fancy and all right?.. well the blades I am traditionally used to using are Derby Extra blades, they are cheap and work wonderfully, you can get 100 pack for 15 dollars on Amazon. Well for the past few weeks I haven’t had any of these Derby blades to use, and I never bought a 100 pack (until tonight of course). So I’ve been using these Merkur blades, by the same company that makes my razor and they absolutely suck. They are too sharp and leave your skin feeling bare as if they are taking off some skin along with them. Anyway, they’ve been working for the past few shaves I’ve had, but tonight I put a new one on my razor and it absolutely killed my face. I look fine tonight, but tomorrow I’m sure I’ll be sporting a nasty burn. So that’s my story. Interested in wet shaving? Let me know in the comments or via twitter or something and I’ll get around to making a post about wet shaving. Woo!

Okay so a few days ago I noticed my battery wasn’t charging, lame right? so I didn’t think too much of it, and thought I’d just figure it out later. After a couple of days I moved the Macbook to the dining room table and noticed that it was lopsided, I figured I was missing a foot (you know the little rubber feet on the underside), it wasn’t that, I noticed the huge lump on the battery. Turns out it was indeed swollen, or exploded, either way– today I called Applecare on the phone, they said to take it to the Apple Store. So I made an appointment, took it in, and even though it was passed its warranty, the battery shouldn’t have been swollen at its age, so they exchanged it out for me, free of charge. Very awesome.

So far so good, still working on a good amount of under the hood stuff on Stevo.org, but you might see that a lot of things look a little cleaner as well, fonts correct sizes, etc. Take a browse around and see what’s up, I really like how the comments is working out, I also added an option to create a gravatar before you comment, I thought that was a pretty cool idea myself, so it’s there now. Figure the site should be running 100% live pretty soon. At least you can see view the website regardless. Anyway, I’ve had a very long day, tomorrow is Sunday and the rain has finally stopped, I’m ready to get some shut eye. That’s about it, I love you all. Discuss.
